There are no facilities on the beach like sunbeds and umbrella's, but there is one taverna, which is actually one of the best tavernas of the whole of Mykonos with comfortable chairs, a view over the beach, and off course delicious food. Nell'era moderna l'isola è stata dapprima occupata dall'Impero Ottomano ed in seguito dalla Repubblica di Venezia. Negli ultimi secoli i miconiani si sono distinti fra i protagonisti delle lotte per l'indipendenza greca.

MitologiaNella mitologia greca Mykonos è sede della mitica battaglia tra Zeus e il gigante. Il nome fu dato all'isola, in onore di Mykons nipote di Febo.

OggigiornoOggi Mykonos è un'isola cosmopolita che accoglie migliaia di turisti ogni anno. Molte celebrità greche ed internazionali trascorrono le loro vacanze estive sull'isola e non è raro incontrarle passeggiare lungo le bianche mura degli edifici cittadini, oppure a cena nelle taverne dei ristoranti locali. Mykonos è famosa anche per i suoi numerosi locali e per le tante discoteche che nei mesi estivi accendono la notte mykoniana fino al chiarore dell'alba. Famosa anche, per la vivace vita gay, si presta a diventare la "capitale" estiva della tolleranza, anche se il carattere di meta turistica gay, molto marcato negli anni Ottanta e Novanta, è negli ultimi anni diminuito, sia per il crescente successo di Mikonos come meta "per famiglie", sia per la concorrenza di altre e nuove località vocate al turismo gay come Ibiza o Sitges.

SpiaggeLe spiagge sono pulite e il mare è cristallino, ideale anche per il windsurf. Nelle spiagge è possibile disporre di vari servizi. Tra le più famose Aghios Stefanos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Elià; tutte spiagge nella parte meridionale dell'isola. Il nudismo è consentito ma meno diffuso che nel recente passato.

Aerei e traghettiMykonos dispone di un aeroporto che garantisce collegamenti con la Grecia continentale e con il resto d'Europa. Inoltre ogni giorno sono diversi i traghetti che collegano l'isola col Pireo, Rafina, Salonicco e con le altre isole dell'Egeo.

Mykonos (griechisch Μύκονος (f. sg.)) ist eine Insel der Kykladen im Ägäischen Meer. Zusammen mit der fast unbewohnten Insel Delos bildet sie zugleich eine Gemeinde in der Präfektur Kykladen. Sie hat eine Fläche von 86 km² und ca. 9300 Einwohner. Die Hauptstadt der Insel – die Chora – heißt ebenfalls Mykonos. Die Insel zählt zu den populärsten griechischen Inseln mit Massentourismus.

Lage [Bearbeiten]Mykonos wird umgeben von Delos im Westen, Tinos im Norden und Naxos im Süden.
Geschichte [Bearbeiten]In der Antike war die nur zwei Kilometer entfernte Nachbarinsel Delos ein bedeutendes kulturelles und religiöses Zentrum. Überlieferungen zu Folge, war es dort verboten, geboren zu werden oder zu sterben. Deshalb liegt die Vermutung nahe, dass viele Menschen zwischen den beiden Inseln hin- und herreisten. Während dieser Zeit wurde die Kultur der Insel auch durch verschiedene andere Völker, wie den Makedoniern und den Phöniziern und deren Traditionen beeinflusst. 1207 kam die Insel, wie die meisten Kykladen, unter die Herrschaft der Ghizzi-Dynastie. Deren letzter Herrscher, Georgios Ghizzi, übergab die Insel 100 Jahre später der Republik Venedig. 1537 wurde Mykonos, wie viele andere Kykladen-Inseln, osmanisch. Im Unabhängigkeitskrieg trug sie, sowohl finanziell als auch rüstungstechnisch gesehen, stark zur Befreiung im Jahr 1830 bei. Bis sich die Wirtschaft von diesen schwerwiegenden Ereignissen wieder erholt hatte, dauerte es einige Jahrzehnte. In den Zwischenkriegsjahren setzte der Tourismus ein, der die Insel heute noch wirtschaftlich versorgt.
Mythologie [Bearbeiten]Der Mythologie nach besiegte Herakles in einer seiner zwölf Taten Riesen, die er ins Meer warf. Als sie zu Stein erstarrten, entstand die Insel Mykonos. Benannt wurde die Insel nach Apollos Enkel Mykons.

Archäologisches Museum von Mykonos [Bearbeiten]Das Museum wurde 1902 in der Nähe des Hafens von Mykonos-Stadt erbaut, um dort Funde aus der Nekropolis (Totenstadt) Delos’ auszustellen. Das Bauvorhaben wurde vom Ministerium für Erziehung und Archäologie in Athen finanziert. Heute stellt das Museum folgende Funde aus:
Besonders zu beachten ist ein Reliefpithos aus dem 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr. mit der ältesten bekannten Abbildung des trojanischen Pferdes.
Volkskunde-Museum [Bearbeiten]Dieses wurde 1958 in einem Haus aus dem 18. Jahrhundert eingerichtet. Es befindet sich auf dem venezianischen Berg. Dort werden Alltags- und Gebrauchsgegenstände sowie Schiffsmodelle und Kanonen aus dem Krieg des 19. Jahrhunderts, also der Zeit während und nach der Revolution, ausgestellt. Außerdem wird anhand einer nachgestellten Küche und eines Schlafzimmers die Lebenssituation zu dieser Zeit vermittelt.
Ägäisches Schifffahrtsmuseum [Bearbeiten]Dieses Museum wurde nach zweijährigem Bau 1985 eröffnet, um die griechische Schifffahrtstradition und die Funktionsweise von Handelsschiffen nachzustellen. Das dazugehörige Kuratorium wurde von George M. Drakopulos geschaffen, der für die Gründung des Museums eine Athener Auszeichnung und den World Ship Trust’s Award für bedeutende Leistungen erhielt.

Diese einzigartige Marienkirche ist deshalb so bekannt, weil sie aus fünf eigentlich eigenständigen weißen Kapellen besteht, die im Laufe der Zeit zu einem Komplex zusammengewachsen sind. Die erste Kapelle Agii Anargyri stammt aus dem Jahre 1425. Der entstandene Sakralbau ist ein sehr beliebtes Fotomotiv. Leider ist die Kirche im Moment einsturzgefährdet und kann daher nicht von innen besichtigt werden.
Das Panagia-Turliani-Kloster [Bearbeiten]Dieses Kloster wurde 1542 mit dem Namen „Eisodia tis Panagias“ („Kirche der Erscheinung der Jungfrau Maria“) gegründet, um dort eine Ikone, die in der Region Turlos gefunden wurde, aufzubewahren und zu verehren. Am 15. August (Mariä Himmelfahrt) findet auf Mykonos ein Fest für die Inselheilige statt. Im Kloster gibt es auch ein kleines Museum, das Gewänder, Ikonen aus der byzantinischen Zeit und die ersten Kirchenglocken ausstellt.
Architektur [Bearbeiten]In Mykonos-Stadt ist die für die Kykladen typische Architektur besonders gut zu sehen. Ihre Kennzeichen sind weiße Häuser mit Flachdächern, farbigen Holztüren und Fenstern sowie mit Blumen geschmückte Balkone, auffällig sind auch die steilen gepflasterten Straßen. Ausnahme bildet hier das Viertel Klein-Venedig, das ganz im venezianischen Stil an der Strandpromenade erbaut wurde.
Kato Mili [Bearbeiten]
Die fünf Windmühlen
Ebenfalls in Mykonos-Stadt auf einer etwas erhöhten Stelle, dem Ano Mili, befindet sich das Wahrzeichen der Insel, die Kato Mili. Fünf der ehemals zehn Windmühlen, die von der Umgebung herangeliefertes Getreide bearbeiteten, sind noch erhalten. Dort befindet sich auch das landwirtschaftliche Museum, das unter anderem eine steinerne Weinpresse und einen Wasserspeicher ausstellt.
Tourismusziel für Schwule und Lesben [Bearbeiten]Die Insel ist seit den 1960er-Jahren[3] ein bekanntes und beliebtes Tourismusziel für Homosexuelle. Große Reiseunternehmen wie beispielsweise Neckermann werben mit Hotels für Schwule und Lesben. Einer der beliebtesten Strände bei Schwulen wurde auch Namensgeber für den Ralf-König-Comic „Super-Paradise“.[3]
Verkehr [Bearbeiten]Mykonos wird durch eine gute Fährenverbindung an die Städte Piräus, Rafina, Iraklio (Kreta), Santorin, Ios, Paros, Naxos, Skiathos, Syros, Thessaloniki und Tinos angebunden. Der Flughafen Mykonos wird unter anderem von Athen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brüssel, Düsseldorf, Köln/Bonn, Wien und München angeflogen. Damit gehört Mykonos zu den am besten erreichbaren Inseln der Kykladen.
Attentat [Bearbeiten]Der sogenannte Mykonos-Attentat fand nicht auf der Insel, sondern in einem gleichnamigen Restaurant in der deutschen Hauptstadt Berlin statt. Bei ihm wurden im Auftrag des iranischen Geheimdienstes vier kurdische Exilpolitiker ermordet.

Pelícano en Miconos
Míkonos o Miconos (en griego: Μύκονος) es una isla de Grecia perteneciente a las Cícladas, situada entre Tinos (al noroeste), Siros (al oeste), Paros (al sudeste) y Naxos (al sur). Tiene una superficie de 86 Km2 y una altitud máxima de 364 m. La isla tiene un suelo mayoritariamente granítico y una importante escasez de agua que hace imprescindible su obtención mediante desalación. Cuenta con 6.200 habitantes. La población principal es Mykonos (Chora), situada en la parte occidental de la isla. Fue una isla cosmopolita, famosa entre los visitantes de la jet-set internacional que pasaban allí sus vacaciones. Es también considerada uno de los "paraísos gays" del Mediterráneo aunque en los últimos años ya no tiene el "glamour" de antaño. Los atractivos principales son sus magníficas playas, la sorprendente vida nocturna y su proximidad a la isla de Delos, llena de tesoros arqueológicos (probablemente esta es la razón que trajo a los primeros turistas a Mykonos), situada a pocos kilómetros al suroeste. Mykonos es el lugar de vacaciones más conocido de Grecia y también el más caro. Ultimamente está muy masificado, sobre todo en verano, y la calidad del servicio a los turistas ha bajado considerablemente; Está conectado por barco diariamente con el Pireo y la mayoría de las otras islas del mar Egeo. Según la mitología griega, en Mykonos tuvo lugar la batalla entre Zeus y los Gigantes.
